Mission

ENAC Drones and UTM Chair (Research Group), sponsored by AIRBUS and Sopra Steria, tackling the problem of safe integration of UAS into controlled and uncontrolled airspace. We strongly believe that having a complete understanding and expertise on the design, control, guidance and intelligence of UAS is the key to address these issues.
Currently, ENAC infrastructure includes an indoor flight arena (10mx10mx10m) with OptiTrack motion capture system, outdoor flight possibility located at Muret radio controlled model aircraft field (south of Toulouse, France), UAS expertise by the Dynamic Systems axis researchers, and the full access to the open-source autopilot system Paparazzi by the in-house developers. These capabilities lets us materialize our ideas starting from the use-cases up to the point of realistic demonstrations ! Outside !
Researchers working in the Drones & UTM Research Chair will also leverage ENAC's expertise on Air Traffic Management and can work with ACHIL platform which has UTM simulation capabilities.

The candidate will :
· Be responsible for monitoring developments in U-space regulations and their consequences on the management of drone operations, particularly in controlled areas. He/she will work on the study of the ATM/UTM interface and the means to be implemented to enable it under safe conditions: space and trajectory management, necessary data exchanges, U-space services to be implemented, new tools, new working methods, etc.
· Participate in the design and implementation of simulations and experiments linked to the use of UAVs and their integration into airspace.
· Develop and simulate initial use cases in the ENAC lab's technological ecosystem: flying arena, open source paparazzi autopilot, and contribute to validating scenario compliance with the European Operations
· Participate in national and international standardization and regulatory bodies, as well as in thematic working groups (Sesar UCC, EuroControl, EuroCAE, …).
· Provide use cases and scenarios forming a concept of operations, determine requirements and KPIs from the user's point of view, closely monitor the evolution of regulatory and legal aspects and their compliance within the project.
· Contribute to other subjects (ethical considerations, social acceptability, RGPD aspects, payload and drone adaptation, architecture definition, innovation management and exploitation plans, dissemination and communication).
· Collaborate closely with other researchers and engineers to integrate the developed algorithms into existing platforms.
· Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the fields of artificial intelligence, UTM and Digital Aviation.
· Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at relevant conferences and workshops.
Mentor and collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students in the research group
